Artist Statement
I work with a mix of digital and traditional media. I think a blend of both is the best way to approach the abstract concepts I address in what I make. Working digitally allows for more flexibility, while traditional media like drawing, allows me to get textures and a sense of authenticity in each work. Each media has its own strength that I utilize to carry my piece. My works attempt to illustrate ideas that are hard to put into words through digital collage and traditional mediums. I tend to scan in magazines and other miscellaneous items to make a base for my artwork. I will then edit the scans in Photoshop or draw digitally on top.
My artworks tend to tonally juxtapose. My colors tend to be bright and cheery, but the pieces themselves have a somber, and crafted impression. However, it is the grungy texture, made with rough scans of ink, and filters that really solidifies the artwork. They are the finishing touches that bring everything together and sell the concept. The marks from the scratchy texture over everything make the piece seem more united and finished.
